This year marks the fourth year that the Knights of Columbus #7416 of St. Gerard Catholic Church has presented a new American flag to the 6th Cavalry Museum. The American flag flies over the museum’s memorial brick garden at the former Army post at Fort Oglethorpe (1902-1947) on Barnhardt Circle.
“The flagpole is 105 feet tall, and you can’t help but notice the splendor of the flag when you turn onto Barnhardt Circle,” museum President Durinda Cheek said. “The weather takes a toll on the flag, so getting a new one each year is wonderful.”
The group’s support of the museum includes a new flag each year, volunteering for special events and workdays at the museum.
