Greetings, outdoorspeople!
- Weekend forecast: Saturday; high 72; High 77; afternoon showers
- Recommended adventure: Check out a pair of new exhibits at the Tennessee Aquarium, which show how microplastics negatively affect the health of the ocean as well as rivers, lakes and streams. The displays feature actual debris taken from the banks of the Tennessee River, plus an exhibition of invasive aquatic wildlife such as a Northern Snakehead and Grass Carp. Learn more here.
- Most interesting thing we recently learned: When making your own hummingbird nectar (one part sugar, four parts water), you should never use brown, raw or organic sugar, which contain levels of iron that could be lethal to the birds. Moreover, you should never use honey, which can lead to dangerous fungal growth. Rather, plain white sugar is the safest solution.
