Wade Hinton among top 100 diversity officers

At their 17th Annual National Diversity and Leadership Conference, DiversityFirst recognized business leader and attorney Wade Hinton among the 2021 Top 100 Diversity Officers. Award winners were selected from organizations across the country and represent various industries such as healthcare, technology and entertainment.

“As diversity, equity and inclusion are finally being seen and acknowledged as serious, pressing matters of discussion, we are delighted to honor and recognize those who have been tirelessly championing belonging and allyship – even before the topic was on the forefront of Americans’ minds,” said Dennis Kennedy, founder of the National Diversity Council.

Hinton recently ran for mayor of Chattanooga but finished third among the 15 candidates and did not qualify for the April runoff election ultimately won by Tim Kelly. Prior to his mayoral run, Hinton served as Unum Group’s first chief inclusion and diversity officer. During Hinton’s tenure, Unum made its first appearance on Forbes Magazine’s 500 Best Employers for Diversity and now is listed in the top 100.

“I’m certainly honored to be named among this great group of leaders,” said Hinton. “It’s also great to see more organizations and communities recognize the importance of creating spaces and places of belonging for everyone.”
