Georgia state Sen. Jeff Mullis, R-Chickamauga, announced his bid for re-election this week.

Mullis represents the 53rd Senate District in Georgia that covers all of Walker and Dade counties, along with a majority of Chattooga County and portions of Catoosa County.

"Serving the people of Northwest Georgia has been one of the greatest privileges of my life. We have accomplished so much together, from protecting our Second Amendment rights, protecting the right to life, taking steps to secure our elections, passing pro-business legislation and so much more," Mullis said in a statement. "However, I believe we still have work to do."

Mullis, a self-described defender of conservative values, said he would work to pass measures that further guarantee fair elections, curb China's influence, secure the right to bear arms, stand up against vaccine mandates and keep critical race theory out of schools if re-elected.

"I am a proven fighter for our shared conservative values, and that is why I am running for re-election in 2022: to fight for you, the hardworking citizens of the 53rd Senate District," he said. "I humbly ask for your vote in the coming election cycle."

Mullis was first elected in 2000 when he beat incumbent Democrat Sonny Hudgins in the general election. He was then appointed chairman of the Senate Rules Committee in January 2013.

Since 2000, Mullis has had four GOP primary challengers. In 2020, he drew two challengers, Colton Moore and Todd Noblitt, and won the primary with 54.8% of the votes.

Mullis remains Senate Rules Committee chair and is also a member of committees for appropriations, economic development, regulations, reapportionment and administrative affairs.

Brian Kemp to the Georgia Film, Music and Digital Entertainment Advisory Commission. Lastly, he is the chairman emeritus of the Sportsman Caucus, whose mission is to promote and protect hunting, fishing and the Second Amendment.
