Full Circle
The first dome home I saw was in Rock Castle County, Kentucky, about 25 years ago. I discovered the unique, round structure nestled into the forested hillside near where my father, a soil scientist, was collecting samples. Though seemingly abandoned, primitive and cobwebby, the dome tapped into my imagination. It seemed like the sort of place whimsical woodland creatures might gather.
Fast forward to 2021, and dome homes are sprouting like mushrooms across the Tennessee Valley. Complete with luxury amenities, these are not the domes of my childhood, though they are nonetheless magical.
