East Hamilton's volleyball team came up just short of the program's first state championship Friday, falling in the TSSAA Class AA final to Hume-Fogg 3-1 at Siegel High School in Murfreesboro.

Hume-Fogg won the first set 25-12 before the Lady Hurricanes took the second 25-22, but the Lady Blue Knights won each of the next two 25-19 to avoid a fifth set.

The Lady Hurricanes (31-6) were making their seventh trip to the state tournament and attempting to win the school's first state championship in any sport.

East Hamilton's McKenna Hayes finished with 17 kills, 14 digs and six aces against Hume-Fogg, while Amya Sutton added 12 kills and five digs, Madison Allen had 10 kills, 12 digs and two aces, and sophomore setter Tristin Sutton contributed 40 assists, four kills and 10 digs.

Hume-Fogg (36-7) came from the elimination bracket to win its fifth straight match after a five-set loss to Anderson County in the opening round on Tuesday. Sanaa Williams led the Lady Blue Knights in the final with 17 kills and 13 digs, and Nye Brown added 16 kills and three blocks.

No other Chattanooga-area teams advanced past Thursday's semifinal round.
