Your Thursday at a glance:

Good morning, Chattanooga!

Allyson Smith was studying to be a lawyer and working as a bartender when she began asking her bosses to let her try adding to their menu.

“I had always wanted to be a chef, although I was studying to be a lawyer and eventually Secretary of State or a Supreme Court justice,” she said.

While she didn’t go to culinary school, her dreams were lived out. Today she serves as the executive chef at Scottie’s on the River, offering “elevated American cuisine in a casual atmosphere.”

The best part of her job is a no-brainer: the food.

“I think any chef will agree that it’s making the food, she said. “But I also enjoy the happy faces of people eating my food in the restaurant and the cold beer after a crazy Saturday.”

Here learn more about Smith, who she’d invite to her dream dinner and check out her favorite personal recipe for linguine with clam sauce in this week’s Meet the Chef.
