A Chattanooga man waived his right to a trial by jury Friday and pleaded guilty to statutory rape by an authority figure, according to a news release from the Hamilton County District Attorney's Office.

Floyd King was 62 when he was arrested on child rape and aggravated sexual battery charges in Georgia in April 2019 after nearly three years of investigations that were delayed by a number of law enforcement complications. He has been in custody in Hamilton County for the past two years.

King was accused of raping a girl beginning when she was 12 years old, according to Hamilton County court records. A paternity test showed him to be the father of a child that the girl had when she was 14.

In accepting the plea agreement, King is expected to be sentenced to six years in prison and remain on the sex offender registry for life.
