What to know about Chattanooga's Dalewood community

Drive time: Six miles from Dalewood Middle School to the Tennessee Aquarium by way of Wilcox Boulevard and Riverfront Parkway. It should take around 10-15 minutes.

Locator maps: The Woodmore community primarily surrounds North Moore Road and Shallowford Road. Its easternmost border would be the Chattanooga airport.

Dinner: A couple of unique options are the Chopstix Viet Bistro, which offers Vietnamese and Korean food plus bubble teas, or the Rib and Loin, which has touted the "best BBQ in Chattanooga for over 30 years."

In the news: Dalewood Middle was recently named an Amazon Future Engineer schools, which will provide access to computer science materials and curriculum through a partnership between Amazon and Project STEM.

Happy place: Some great athletic careers have started right at the Brainerd Recreational Center, minutes away from Brainerd High School. The center offers not just basketball, but tennis courts, ballfields and a safe haven for kids from the area.

Shop talk: There are multiple shopping centers in the general area: Eastgate Town Center (formerly Eastgate Mall) and Brainerd Village Shopping Center are two of the larger ones, each providing a multitude of eateries and shopping options.

Walkability: The Woodmore-Dalewood community is one of the more walkable areas in Chattanooga, with sidewalks available down North Moore Road stretching past Brainerd High School. Also, the nearby Eastgate Town Center has become "a good place for walking and friendly fellow walkers."

Health-care assets: Parkridge Medical Center and CHI Memorial Hospital are within 10 minutes of the area.

Claim to fame: Award-winning music artist Usher Raymond went to Dalewood Middle School. Unfortunately, in 2016, the area became known for a tragic event when a school bus carrying elementary-age kids rolled over, killing six and injuring 23. people from across Chattanooga pulled together and grieved with the Dalewood community.
