The median pay for all jobs in the six-county Chattanooga metropolitan area rose last year by 3.9% to $49,080, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Median pay in Chattanooga was still 15.8% below the national median pay of $58,260 for a typical American worker in 2021. Among the top 10 paying occupations in Chattanooga, six are in health care. The top-paying jobs and their median pay were:

1. Surgeons and specialized physicians -- $304,530

2. Family medicine physicians -- $245,870

3. General internal medicine physicians -- $235,010

4. Pediatricians -- $202,570

5. Chief executives -- $201,510

6. Nurse anesthetists -- $157,990

7. Dentists -- $150,790

8. Architectural, engineering managers -- $138,720

9. Lawyers -- $135,400

10. Computer and IT managers -- $132,110
