Greater Chattanooga Sports Hall of Fame’s new class includes Brainerd legend Venus Lacy

Induction banquet for 19 will also honor special award winners

Four area high school basketball stars who went on to NCAA Division I glory are among the 19 new inductees selected for the Greater Chattanooga Sports Hall of Fame.

The four are Olympic gold medalist Venus Lacy from Brainerd, who later played at Louisiana Tech, Jody Adams from Bradley Central (Tennessee), Orlando Lightfoot from City High (Idaho) and Brandon Born from Ringgold (University of Tennessee at Chattanooga).

The induction banquet is at 6 p.m. on March 13 at the Chattanooga Convention Center. Tickets will go on sale Feb. 1.

The other inductees will be David Owen and Chris Richardson for baseball, DK Joe Smith for boxing, Durward Higgins for cycling, Chris White for football, Gary Partrick for golf, Doug Denet and Doug Roy representing officials and administrators, Curtis Blair for soccer, Nelson Thoresen for softball, Vista Ann Scruggs for swimming, Arleen Hale Hughes and Priscilla Robinson Murray for volleyball, Brad Jackson for wrestling and Todd Agne for media.

The event also includes presentations of the Hall of Fame's annual special awards. Rhyne Howard of the WNBA's Atlanta Dream and Cole Strange of the NFL's New England Patriots will be honored as the Catherine Neely and Reggie White athletes of the year for 2022, and Carlene Ryon and Tim James will get the Betty Probasco and Walt Lauter awards for lifetime achievement or service.

Meigs County football player Tylan Kraskouskas earned the Allan Morris/Jim Morgan Award for overcoming adversity, and Brenda Lawson will be presented the prestigious Presidents Award.
