Here's what's happening in the Chattanooga area this week.

LOOK, UP IN THE SKY

The year's strongest meteor shower will have competition from a not-quite-full moon, but sky watchers can hope for a strong showing by the Geminid meteor shower, which lasts through Dec. 24 but peaks Wednesday, according to earthsky.com. Under optimal viewing conditions, the Geminids deliver bright, bold meteors at rates of 120 per hour. The plentiful Geminids will intersect with the Ursid meteor shower, which peaks on Dec. 22, but the Ursids have a much smaller payoff, with only five to 10 meteors visible per hour.
