Despite a handful of opportunities, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's basketball team fell 60-56 Wednesday afternoon at Marshall, completing a six-game road trip with a 3-3 record.

The Mocs (8-6) return home for the first time this month on Dec. 29, when they host Jacksonville State in the final game of the non-conference schedule.

UTC trailed by as many as 11 in the second quarter, but worked its way back to briefly take a 50-48 lead on the last of Sigrun Olafsdottir's three 3-pointers with 8:50 to play. The Herd responded with six consecutive points to assume control of the lead, but the Mocs never went away, cutting the lead to 57-56 on a layup by Raven Thompson with 20 seconds remaining.

Marshall hit a pair of free throws, and the Mocs weren't able to connect on 3-point tries by Yazz Wazeerud-Din and Addie Porter over the game's final 16 seconds.

"Unfortunately we came up short," UTC head coach Shawn Poppie said. "We dug ourselves an early hole and couldn't find a way to get all the way out of it. I thought our kids competed, but hats off to Marshall: They were a possession better than us today."

Thompson finished the game with 23 points, adding six rebounds. Olafsdottir added 14 points and a team-high five assists in 37 minutes, while Abbey Cornelius had 12 points and 11 rebounds in 36 minutes. The starting backcourt of Wazeerud-Din and Porter shot a combined 2-for-20 for four points, with the former scoring all four. Porter missed all 12 of her shots, but had eight rebounds and Wazeerud-Din added four assists.
