Humphrey’s Flowers isn’t open to the public Saturday or Sunday, but inside the 88-year-old family-owned florist owner Dave and Helen Cheek and their staff will be hard at work this weekend getting ready for the biggest flower day of the year – Valentine’s Day.
“Valentine’s can make or break a flower shop,” Dave Cheek said as he was preparing this week for the holiday on Monday this year. “You prepare for it all year and hopefully you can execute everything on the big day. This is like our ‘Black Friday’ for other retailers – only this year it is on a Monday.”
After preparing floral packages through the weekend, Cheek says he will be ready with a variety of floral displays, most of which will be distributed by 10 vans Humphrey’s will deploy for flower deliveries on Monday.
“It is crazy anytime, but especially Valentine’s,” Humphrey’s delivery driver Bobby Materson said.
Like most things in the current inflationary economy, the price of love is getting more expensive.
