BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Birmingham authorities have finally identified skeletal remains found behind a shopping center in 2020, but the coroner’s office has not been able to locate the dead man’s family.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office on Wednesday identified the man as Wesley Howard Kitchens, 61. He’s described as a transient man who stayed in the Roebuck area, Al.com reported.

DNA was used to identify Kitchens, said Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said.

Kitchens’ remains were found July 6, 2020 atop a sleeping bag inside a makeshift tent in a wooded area behind the Roebuck Shopping Center. There was no evidence of foul play.
