Helping hands

If my next-door neighbor sees smoke coming from my backyard fire pit, he sends his 12-year-old son over on a four-wheeler to make sure everything’s OK. Sometimes, he even arrives with homemade deer sausage.

Since I moved to the country, my relationships with my neighbors are different than during my decade-plus as a downtown apartment dweller. While I do miss the convenience of the city, in this small town, I have more belonging, security and – did I mention? – deer sausage.

In our first story below, we highlight new initiatives designed to help Chattanooga neighbors build more meaningful connections, whether they’re from the city, the country or the other side of the world.
