Sequatchie County softball star Addy Edgmon wanted to add another element to her list of contributions for her senior season.
After the Western Kentucky University outfield signee led the state with 17 home runs while stealing 34 bags for her Class AA state tournament squad last season, Edgmon has taken to the pitching circle for the first time in her prep career.
The left-hander in fact looks like a natural as she fired a six-inning, no-hitter in Monday’s 10-0 road victory over Signal Mountain.
“I like to win so whenever coach told me she needed a pitcher I was like I need to step up and be a senior leader,” Edgmon said. “I went and got a pitching lesson and learned how to grip the ball and then Coach ‘Ville (Kelly Sommerville) taught me how to throw a rise ball. It came to me quick and I have found how to use my explosiveness off the rubber.”
Edgmon opened the game with a line-drive past Signal’s diving second baseman which rolled to the fence. Her speed nearly resulted in an inside-the-park home run, but she was held up after a wide turn at third base.
