A fire destroyed a home early Wednesday morning in Harrison, according to a news release from Hamilton County Emergency Services.

At 12:30 a.m., a homeowner called 911 to report a house fire in the 6500 block of Cooley Road, and firefighters from the Highway 58 Volunteer Fire Department responded.

The first engine arrived and reported heavy fire from the back of the structure. The department requested mutual aid and units responded from the Chattanooga Fire Department, Bradley County Fire Department, Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office and Hamilton County Emergency Medical Services, the news release stated.

Because of the location of the house, set back off road in a wooded area, firefighters were met with the task of getting water to the fire. Once water supply lines were established, a defensive fire attack was conducted to contain the blaze.

All occupants escaped without injury but were treated on the scene for minor smoke inhalation by Hamilton County EMS. Highway 58 Volunteer Fire Department officials reported the house a total loss, and the American Red Cross was contacted to assist the family, the release stated.

An investigation is underway by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office to determine the cause of the fire.
