In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, nine local restaurants along Rossville Boulevard are participating in a second annual "Taco Tour." The tour started Monday and will continue until Oct. 8.
The event is hosted by The BLVD, an organization supporting the revitalization of the Rossville Boulevard corridor, and the Rossville Downtown Development Authority. The corridor sees an average of 25,000 cars per day, according to a news release.
"In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, we're celebrating these businesses who help our community flourish," said The BLVD's executive director, Heather Herweyer, in the release.
Planning organizations are also hosting a community forum "to discuss zoning options to support the continued development of the Rossville Boulevard area" and the Rossville Boulevard Area Plan from 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 5 at Crabtree Farms. The plan was most recently updated in 2004, according to the release.
Last year's taco tour event helped bring the community together, said Tobey Hill of the Rossville Downtown Development Authority.
"Events like this one that promote a better understanding of the diverse cultures that make up our community are key for continued economic growth," Hill said in the release. "We want to encourage everyone in the community to support a local Hispanic or Latino restaurant in our community this fall."
As small local businesses, some restaurants are take-out and cash only and may not have all menu items promoted online at all times so customers should be open to exploring different menu items just in case. Some of the restaurants also accept CashApp, Venmo and PayPal.
