2 Chattanooga police officers injured in multi-vehicle crash Thursday


Two Chattanooga police officers were injured Thursday morning in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 24, according to a news release.

At around 1 a.m., police responded to Interstate 24 westbound after a report of an accident involving a tractor-trailer. An SUV drove around a police patrol vehicle at the scene, coming in contact with a police officer and hitting his leg, the news release stated.

According to authorities, the driver of the SUV also collided with a patrol vehicle, totaling it and leaving an officer entrapped. Emergency services extracted the officer from the vehicle and transported both officers to a local hospital to be treated for injuries that were not life-threatening.

The driver of the SUV was also taken to a local hospital for evaluation, police said.

Authorities have not released the names of the officers and the suspect involved.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
