What was one of the biggest questions on the South Pittsburg football roster coming into the season has become a point of confidence halfway through the regular season.
Prior to this season, junior quarterback Kamden Wellington had never taken a snap at quarterback at any level. But on a team that has had to replace six all-state players from last year's state championship run, Wellington is now a proven offensive weapon, having thrown for more than 700 yards and 10 touchdowns against just two interceptions, and has added more than 300 rushing yards.
Last Friday, in a Region 3-1A showdown at Whitwell, Wellington completed eight of 14 passes for 208 yards and three touchdowns and also led the team with 73 rushing yards and another score in a 40-15 win. That performance earned Wellington this week's Times Free Press Player of the Week honors.
