Calhoun High School junior running back Caden Williams announced on social media this week that he has given a verbal commitment to Liberty University.

“This has been my goal since I first started playing football, from doing push-ups and sit-ups in the living room when I was 6 years old to training with professionals,” Williams said in his statement.

In two seasons at Calhoun, Williams has amassed over 3,000 total yards, including nearly 1,500 this past season despite dealing with injury. The 5-foot-11, 205-pounder has recently been clocked at under 4.5 seconds in the 40-yard dash.

Williams had offers from several schools, including Boston College, Georgia Tech, Charlotte, East Carolina and Dartmouth.

Former Oklahoma State national champion takes over Bradley wrestling

Former two-time national champion Bryant Blackmon will take over the Bradley Central wrestling program after serving for the past seven years as a Bears assistant under Ben Smith.

After winning a state championship for Bradley Central in 2004, Blackmon was a part of Oklahoma State’s national championship teams in 2005 and 2006, when the Cowboys finished their four-peat as NCAA Division I wrestling champions. His older brother, Rusty, was a part of all four consecutive national titles for a program with an all-time best 34 national championships.

Blackmon takes over for Smith, who went 228-67 over the last 13 seasons. Smith helped produce 20 state champions, which included four-timer Knox Fuller. The Bears swept the state duals and traditional wrestling championships in 2016 and 2017. They also had seven runner-up finishes in Smith’s tenure.

Silverdale’s impressive win streaks

Between Silverdale Baptist’s loaded baseball and softball programs, the two have combined for 28 conescutive victories.

Lance Rorex’s Seahawks have won 16 straight, in which his baseball team has outscored opponents 184-24 and hit 19 home runs. They are 17-3 overall on the season.

Meanwhile, Jackie Freeland’s Lady Seahawks (17-1) has won 12 straight with a 146-17 run differential and have blasted 22 home runs in the streak.

Both Divsision II-A program’s appear to be legitimate threats for a state title push halfway through the season.
