The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is conducting an investigation after a man died Sunday after being taken to a hospital Nov. 24, two days after being booked into the Bradley County Jail.

Nathan Michael Riccard, 32, was booked into the jail the day before Thanksgiving on a Hamilton County warrant, according to a statement from the Bradley County Sheriff's Office. The statement does not acknowledge Riccard's death or give a reason he was taken to the hospital.

"I can confirm that Nathan Riccard was booked into the Bradley County Jail on Nov. 22," spokesperson Sgt. Robert Jones said via email. "And I can also confirm he was transported to the hospital on Nov. 24.

'The Bradley County Sheriff's Office cannot release any medical information related to any inmates who have been incarcerated in the Bradley County Jail," Jones continued. "All inmate deaths are independently investigated by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and reviewed internally by the Bradley County Sheriff's Office."

Jones deferred to the TBI for any other information.

The TBI confirmed Riccard's death happened Sunday, but no details were provided.

"After he passed away yesterday, we were requested to investigate," TBI spokesperson Susan Niland said Monday in an email. "An autopsy is scheduled to determine the cause and manner of death."

Hamilton County court records show Riccard had been issued five traffic violations and was charged with possession of a controlled substance stemming from a May 2022 arrest by the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office. He had also been charged in January with failure to appear in General Sessions Court. All the cases were heard in April before Judge Gary Starnes.
