The Tennessee Comptroller’s Office has written a letter to Hamilton County commissioners asking them to revisit a pair of budget amendments the board passed last week that approved future legal fees associated with the dispute between Mayor Weston Wamp and County Attorney Rheubin Taylor. The letter points out that the commission did not define specific dollar amounts.
During its meeting Wednesday, the commission amended its budget to appropriate fees associated with legal services that have not yet been performed or billed to the county. In a letter to Wamp and commissioners Friday, the comptroller’s office said the amendments did not, however, contain an estimated dollar amount for increased spending, which is required by state law.
The county commission should determine a reasonable estimate, the letter said, and adopt amendments that include that amount.
