We find the headline of a Beacon Center of Tennessee poll released Thursday rather ho-hum because it tells us what we and most people in the state already know — that former President Donald Trump and current President Joe Biden are easily the leading candidates for their party’s 2024 nomination among Volunteer State voters.
But that headline is what the majority of people want to read, no matter which of the two they favor.
For conservatives like us, this is sad news because if this is the sentiment of the nation as a whole — and daily polls show that it is — Biden will be re-elected to a second term in November 2024.
Trump lost the 2020 election by more than 7 million votes. However, conspiracy theorists point out that he didn’t need anywhere near that many votes to win the election, and, because of the Electoral College, they’re right. If he could have had only 48,000 more votes in four states, he’d be serving his second term.
After that election, the then-president exhorted protesters in a Jan. 6, 2021, speech that just down street in the U.S. Capitol the powers that be were validating the election for Biden. As a result, more than 2,000 protesters ultimately entered the Capitol, vandalizing, looting and assaulting some of those with whom they came into contact.
