A Ringgold, Georgia, man will stand trial in connection with a fatal road rage-related shooting after his self-defense claim was denied by a judge Thursday.
Legal counsel for Daniel Vaughn argued a Sept. 6, 2021, shooting was justified because the victim, Jack “Chad” Chandler Pedigo, followed Vaughn and his wife to their house while being threatening, throwing objects and driving erratically after a traffic incident on Battlefield Parkway.
After the initial incident, Pedigo drove away but was shot and killed in his car when he returned to Vaughn’s Ringgold home later that evening, according to a Catoosa County Sheriff’s Office news release after Vaughn was arrested earlier this year.
At the hearing, prosecutors said the defense didn’t provide sufficient evidence to prove Vaughn feared for his life before using deadly force. Superior Court Judge Brian House denied the self-defense claim, and Vaughn’s trial is scheduled for Aug. 14.
