Chattanooga Red Wolves end road scoring drought, still get blown out at Greenville

In the first match since their latest coaching change, the Chattanooga Red Wolves’ road struggles during the 2023 USL League One season continued.

The Red Wolves lost 5-1 to the Greenville Triumph SC in South Carolina on Wednesday, returning to action a day after the club announced that Ziggy Korytoski had been dismissed after just 12 matches as coach, with Jimmy Weekley taking over on an interim basis for the second time in two years.

Chattanooga did get its first goal away from home this season, with Moe Espinoza scoring in the 11th minute on a ball that was deflected by a Greenville defender, but the Red Wolves allowed four goals to Lyam Mackinnon to fall to 0-6 on the road this season.

At 3-8-2 overall, the Red Wolves remain stuck at 10 points and 11th in the 12-team league standings. Greenville (5-5-4, 19 points) is seventh.

Chattanooga’s next match is at home. The second-place Charlotte Independence (6-3-4) visit the Red Wolves at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at CHI Memorial Stadium in East Ridge.
