A worker was left with burns and was hospitalized after an explosion in an apartment unit Monday morning, according to a news release from the Chattanooga Fire Department.

The incident happened at the Marina Pointe Apartments on Lake Resort Drive, where fire crews responded around 10:45 a.m. A worker, whose name has not been released by authorities, was resurfacing a bathtub in an apartment unit when chemicals were "sprayed with no ventilation, causing a buildup and small explosion," the release stated.

According to investigators, the explosion blew out the windows of the unit and blew the bathroom door off its hinges. The worker was later transported to a local hospital to be treated for burns.

Multiple fire crews and a city building inspector responded to the scene. After the apartment building was evacuated and the air quality was evaluated by authorities, residents were allowed to return to their homes.
