Volkswagen Chattanooga and local first responders will conduct an active shooter exercise at the plant from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, according to the automaker.
The purpose of the exercise is to enhance interagency coordination and effectiveness between local law enforcement and the Volkswagen team in responding to an active shooter event, a news release said.
The exercise will simulate an active shooter scenario and provide participating organizations with an opportunity to assess emergency response capabilities, plans, policies and procedures, the release said.
Participating organizations include the Chattanooga Police Department, Chattanooga Fire Department, Hamilton County Sheriff's Office, Volkswagen Security and Fire, and other law enforcement, fire, emergency medical services and supporting agencies, according to the release.
The Hamilton County Emergency Operations Center will participate in the exercise to test its support capabilities and provide additional resources, the release said.
