Gas prices in Chattanooga declined for the third consecutive week last week to the lowest level in nearly three months, and prices at the pump should decline even more this week, according to the online fuel pricing service GasBuddy.com.

Average gasoline prices in Chattanooga fell another 11.8 cents per gallon in the past week to $3.14 per gallon, according to GasBuddy's survey of 170 stations in Chattanooga. Prices in Chattanooga are 21.8 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and average 63 cents a gallon less than the U.S. average.

Prices at the pump in Chattanooga are still 8.8 cents per gallon higher than at this time a year ago, according to GasBuddy.com. But Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, said in a report Monday that he expects gas prices to decline even more this week.

"While this week saw average gasoline prices moving higher again in the West, most of the nation saw a noticeable decline in gasoline prices," DeHaan said. "While the trend is likely to be a strong one to the downside, small issues here and there could temporarily delay the onset of lower prices; but for now, motorists need not be in any rush: lower gas prices are on the way for every U.S. state in the weeks ahead."
