Chattanooga area road closures, delays for this weekend’s Ironman

It's Ironman weekend in Chattanooga, and athletes will be swimming, biking and running through the area Sunday.

To accommodate the race, numerous roads will face closures and delays.

Road closures through Monday:

— Riverside Drive/Riverfront Parkway between Aquarium Way and Molly Lane.

— Chestnut Street between Aquarium Way and Riverfront Parkway.

— Power Alley from the parking lot to Riverfront Parkway.

— Southbound Veterans Bridge ramp to Riverside Drive.

Waterways and roads closed or with limited access Sunday:

Swimming 5-10:30 a.m.

— The Tennessee River will be closed to pleasure crafts between Ross's Landing and the Hubert Fry Center.

Cycling 5 a.m.-6 p.m.

— Right eastbound lane of Riverfront Parkway between Molly Lane and Market Street.

— Right southbound lane of Market Street between West 20th Street and West 40th Street.

— Interstate 24 on-ramp and off-ramp at Market Street.

— West 40th Street between Alton Park Boulevard and Tennessee Avenue.

— Streets crossing the routes above will be controlled by officers.

— Intersections of St. Elmo Avenue and Virginia Avenue at West 45th Street will be four-way stops 8 a.m.-6 p.m.

— Exit 178A, I-24 eastbound ramp to Broad Street; detour to Rossville Boulevard Exit 180B or Highway 27 northbound ramp to M.L. King Boulevard.

— Lookout Mountain/Broad Street exit ramp from Highway 27 southbound; detour to Rossville Boulevard Exit 180B.

— New Frontage Road between Broad Street and Market Street.

— Williams Street at the new Frontage Road.

Running 12:25 p.m. Sunday to 1 a.m. Monday

— Right eastbound lane of Frazier Avenue between Forest Avenue and the Veterans Bridge.

— Right northbound lane of Barton Avenue between Frazier Avenue and Baker Street.

— Right northbound lane of the Veterans Bridge between East Third Street and Barton Avenue.

— Right westbound lane of Amnicola Highway between Old Curtain Pole Road and Lindsay Street.

— Riverside Drive between Lindsay Street and Molly Lane.

— Battery Place off-ramp from Riverside Drive.

— Aquarium Way between Riverside Drive and Walnut Street.

— Streets crossing this route will be controlled by officers.

Race day delays 5 a.m.-6 p.m.

— Intersection of West 20th and Broad streets.

— Intersection of St. Elmo Avenue and 45th Street.

— Highway 193 at Highway 341.

About the race

Athletes will:

— Swim 2.4 miles down the Tennessee River.

— Bike 116 miles into Northwest Georgia.

— Run 26.2 miles through downtown Chattanooga.
