The lineup for Tennessee state House and Senate primaries in August were locked in at noon Thursday, when the window to qualify for the election closed.

Three incumbents in the Hamilton County legislative delegation will face primary opponents, including Sen. Todd Gardenhire, R-Chattanooga, and Rep. Patsy Hazlewood, R-Signal Mountain.

“In both of those races, we have senior elected officials that are well respected with challengers who haven’t held office at that level yet, so it will be an uphill battle for them,” Mark Harrison, chair of the Hamilton County Republican Party, said by phone.

Gardenhire will contend with former Red Bank Commissioner Ed LeCompte in the primary. The winner will face Democrat Missy Crutchfield in the general election.
