A man drowned in the Tennessee River after reportedly falling from a dock Sunday night, Chattanooga officials said.

Officers responded to the report of a person in the river around 418 Manufacturers Road near Renaissance Park at 9:20 p.m. Sunday, according to a news release.

They were told a man fell into the water and did not resurface, the release said.

Dive teams found the 21-year-old dead and removed him from the water at 1:17 a.m. Monday, according to police.

Teams used sonar to scan the river and find the man, according to a release from the Chattanooga Fire Department. Crews had to use bolt cutters to open a gate to access the property with the dock, officials said.

Police said the drowning appeared accidental, and an investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information can call 423-698-2525.
