An abandoned grocery store and retail center on Dayton Boulevard is slated to be redeveloped over the next couple of years into one of Red Bank’s biggest apartment complexes.
The project will be constructed next to a commercial development expected to include a new restaurant, coffee shop and other retail space.
Rise Partners, a Chattanooga-based developer of retail and office projects across the South, is partnering with Hawthorne Residential Partners to build a 208-unit apartment complex and 6,500 square feet of commercial development in the 2100 block of Dayton Boulevard.
The new development will be built on the site of the former Save a Lot grocery store. Save a Lot closed that location after operating on Dayton Boulevard for more than two decades. The 23,343-square-foot facility originally opened as a Kroger grocery store nearly a half century ago
Rise Partners, which purchased the property more than two years ago, initially requested a rezoning to allow for the construction of 38 townhomes on the property. The city’s Planning Commission approved the request, but Rise Partners’ founding partner, Geoff Smith, said the developers changed their plans to provide more housing density and development in the increasingly popular southern end of Red Bank.
