Camden Goforth’s football dreams include a future in which he helps pave the way to success for the University of Tennessee’s offense inside Neyland Stadium.
The 6-foot-4, 295-pound Goforth, a McMinn County High School junior who has started for the Cherokees since he was a freshman, is starting to receive interest from Southeastern Conference football programs after delivering vicious blocks to opposing defenders over his first two prep seasons. He was honored as TSSAA Region 4-5A’s offensive lineman of the year last fall after helping the Cherokees earn a share of the league title.
“I grew up watching the Vols and going to Knoxville for games,” Goforth said. “I always liked watching Darnell Wright and Javontez Spraggins. As an offensive lineman, I always have the mindset to go into the game and dominate the line of scrimmage while having fun doing it.”
Goforth’s recruitment is certainly ready to heat up as the monstrous lineman who can squat 610 pounds looks to lead one of the state’s top rushing attacks this fall. McMinn County returns the players responsible for 36 of its 38 touchdown runs last season, when coach Bo Cagle’s team averaged 267 rushing yards per game. That was the program’s highest mark since a 10-win season in 2020, when the Cherokees’ smashmouth offense averaged 303 rushing yards.
Jacob Sharp and fellow senior Taylon “Tarzan” White, who generated 10 rushing touchdowns apiece in 2023, complement each other with their speed and versatility. Sharp will be used more in the slot receiver role this season after showcasing his ability to also make big plays in the passing game.
