Two former Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office deputies took the stand this week in connection with a 2019 traffic stop during which a man was strip searched on the side of a Soddy-Daisy road.

James Mitchell, who brought the lawsuit against Daniel Wilkey, Bobby Brewer and the county, is asking for $17 million in damages.

“He was beaten up. He had his pants pulled down,” his attorney, Andrew Clarke, said during opening statements. “He was humiliated on the side of the road.”

Mitchell allegedly went to the hospital three different times and was diagnosed with a scalp contusion, thigh contusion, possible anal fissure and possible back and neck strain, according to Clarke.

Wilkey and Brewer are being sued for allegedly using excessive force, failing to intervene, assault and battery and negligence for their actions on the evening of July 10, 2019.
