Here’s a look at TSSAA Region 3-3A for the 2024 football season.
› Team to beat: McMinn Central returns senior gunslinger Ayden Plemons, who totaled 3,040 yards and 31 touchdowns last season on his way to being an all-state selection. The Chargers should average close to 40 points per game again this season and with an improved defense coach Matt Moody’s team could crack double digit wins. Ray McCarty, Jake Goodin, Mez Moss, Will Mayfield and Landin McInturff will be key weapons on offense along with four returning starters on the offensive line.
› Watch out for: Tyner returns all but one defensive starter from last season, while the Rams also boast a monstrous offensive line led by Davin Pasley, Chase Thompson, Monteast Moore, Christian Keel and Jaqraun Little who all range from 265-300 pounds. The freshman running back duo of Dee McNealy and Karontae’ Cunningham could provide enough juice to help the Ram Train return to prominence ahead of schedule.
› Best game: Central’s Ronye Watson is the most gifted athlete in this entire region. The Division I FBS prospect who has 72 career touchdowns entering his senior season — put up a jaw-dropping performance in the season finale last year as he burned McMinn Central’s defense for 434 total yards and seven touchdowns in a 62-55 victory at home. The Purple Pounders and Chargers should put on another show to end the regular season on Nov. 1.
› Dream schedule: Starting the season with four straight home games could pay major dividends for Central in its quest to return to the playoffs and compete for a region title. The non-region schedule includes matchups with Ooltewah, CCS, Marion County, Soddy Daisy and Howard. Joseph Jefferson, Houston Boykin and Watson could all help lead this team to a winning season.
