Reggie Davis has had quite the roller-coaster career at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
Viewed as one of the most talented guys in the UTC running back room since his arrival in 2021, Davis had one notable moment during his first football season in Chattanooga, a 30-yard run in the Mocs’ blowout victory over Wofford. Soon after, though, he was off the team and had to work his way back.
When he returned in 2022, he was thinner and had lost some of the explosion in his game. He worked, found it a year later and was primed for more playing time from the start in 2023, but another setback arrived in the form of a shoulder injury during the season opener at North Alabama — a roller-coaster of a game the Mocs ultimately lost.
However, the thing about Davis that has become clear during his time with the Mocs, through all the ups and downs, is that he’s not one to be deterred.
So it shouldn’t have been surprising when he returned later in the season and started to round back into form, scoring his first college touchdown on a 45-year run early in UTC’s one-point win against Virginia Military Institute on Oct. 28. A month later, in the first round of the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs, he carried 17 times for 97 yards to lead the Mocs in rushing as they upset Austin Peay in Clarksville.
