As women’s basketball continues to grow in popularity, local standout Journey Holloway looks to help the excitement level grow, while putting her name among Chattanooga’s top players.
Already on pace to end her junior season as the all-time leader in points and steals in Red Bank High School girls’ basketball history, Holloway has major aspirations beyond her prep success.
“My biggest dream is to play for the UTC Lady Mocs, to play for my hometown team,” the 5-foot-7 Lady Lions’ guard said. “I have learned over the years to just trust the process. I continue to strive for success while staying positive and working hard. Basketball is a lifelong skill set that will guide you through life. It is important to believe in yourself and trust God.”
Halfway through the season, Holloway is making a strong case to be a Class 3A Miss Basketball candidate as she is averaging 21.7 points, eight rebounds, seven steals and two assists per game, all while maintaining a 3.7 grade-point average in the classroom. She has also posted game-high marks with 38 points (vs. CSLA), 15 rebounds (vs. Ooltewah) and 12 steals (vs. Howard) through a 5-4 overall start for Red Bank.
Holloway will be among the impressive list of Chattanooga-area prep stars competing in this week’s annual Times Free Press Best of Preps tournament, which tips off Thursday at Chattanooga State.
