Two dead in separate shootings less than a mile from each other in Chattanooga

Two shootings in a Chattanooga neighborhood left two people dead, police say.

Shortly after noon Thursday, police responded to what appeared to be a drive-by shooting on the 4400 block of Fagan Street, according to a news release.

Two people were shot, and one victim was dead when police arrived, the release said.

Police had no further updates on that shooting as of Friday around noon, department spokesperson Keaira Turner said by phone. Anyone with information on the incident can call the Police Department at 423-698-2525.

Around 8 p.m., police responded to reports of a person shot on the 700 block of East 48th Street, less than a mile away in the neighborhood around Workman Road.

A victim was found with a gunshot wound, according to police, and taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Homicide investigators are still working to determine the circumstances of the shooting, according to a release Friday. Anyone with information can call the homicide tip line at 423-643-5100.
