Chattanooga gas prices rose another 7 cents a gallon in the past week to reach a three-month high, and prices at the pump are likely to rise even more this spring, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 170 stations in Chattanooga.
The average price of regular gas in Chattanooga increased this week to $2.80 a gallon, the highest price since early November.
But fuel prices in Chattanooga are still 34.1 cents a gallon below a year ago and are 32 cents a gallon below the U.S. average, GasBuddy said in a report Monday.
Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, said gas prices are likely to continue to rise this spring.
“While most states saw price increases, they were somewhat tame, though the trend will likely begin to accelerate towards the end of the month,” De Haan said in Monday’s report.
In a separate report, AAA said pump prices across Tennessee increased an average of 5 cents a gallon over the past week to $2.84, which is 13 cents more expensive than one month ago but 36 cents less than one year ago.
“Last week we saw pump prices rise fairly quickly early in the week, however, we have seen our state gas price average consistently decline since Friday,” AAA spokesperson Megan Cooper said in a report Monday. “It’s likely that drivers will continue to see fluctuating prices this week. If crude oil prices move more expensive, drivers may see pump prices rise again this week.”
