The Catoosa County Republican Party has announced dates for potential candidates to be interviewed and considered for inclusion on the Republican primary ballot.

In a news release last week, Joanna Hildreth, party chair, said Republican voters can be encouraged that the party only associates with candidates who share their values, but the move to vet candidates has drawn criticism from some county party members who think the voters should decide who is a true Republican.

The county’s Republican Party is committed to the 20-point platform of the Georgia Republican Party, Hildreth said, and “enthusiastically” welcomes like-minded candidates to consider running for office.

Party leadership will be interviewing potential candidates from Feb. 24-March 7, the release said, and potential candidates can reach party leadership by email at catoosagop@gmail.com.
