Will artificial intelligence replace Human Resources?

With increased awareness and understanding of artificial intelligence (AI), the world is navigating uncharted territories. And the world of Human Resources (HR) is no different.

In February 2022, SHRM (Society for Human Resource Management) surveyed active members to determine which areas HR was using automation and/or AI. It may come as no surprise that the majority (79%) were using AI for recruitment and hiring. Learning and development was chosen by 41%, with a close third (38%) using AI for performance management. The lesser three uses were productivity monitoring (18%), succession planning (8%) and promotion decisions (4%). And if you think these percentages have remained the same or decreased since that time, you would be wrong.

Employers also stated in this same survey that AI saves time or increases efficiency, at a whopping 85%.

Is it any wonder that HR professionals questioned if AI would replace the HR department as we know it today? The impact of AI is already changing the way business is conducted — a fact that was confirmed in a Goldman Sachs report, predicting AI would impact as many as 300 million jobs around the world.

But can you imagine a HR department without a human?
