TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — University of Alabama five-star freshman quarterback Julian Sayin has entered the NCAA transfer portal, the program's latest player to look elsewhere after Kalen DeBoer replaced the retired Nick Saban as coach.

Sayin, who signed with the Crimson Tide in December, is the 26th player and second signee to leave Alabama since Saban announced he was leaving earlier this month after 17 seasons in Tuscaloosa that produced six national championships.

DeBoer led Washington to the College Football Playoff final earlier this month, then left the Huskies after two highly successful seasons.

Sayin is a 6-foot-1, 195-pounder from Carlsbad, California, and was ranked as the country's third-best recruit at his position by 247sports.com for the current signing class. Saban called him "an outstanding player" after the quarterback signed on Dec. 20.

"The ball comes out of his hand really nice," Saban said. "He's accurate, he's smart."

DeBoer was able to secure a commitment from one of his former quarterbacks at Washington in Austin Mack, according to multiple media outlets. The former four-star recruit redshirted last season.
