Construction has been completed on a second new warehouse building erected during the past year in the biggest new industrial park added to Chattanooga in more than a decade.
Rise Partners, the Chattanooga-based development firm building the North River Commerce Park on Access Road in Hixson, has completed its second of what ultimately will be four or more major warehouses planned in the $102 million development.
“We’re talking with a number of potential tenants and showing them the building now,” Matt Phillips, a partner for Rise Partners, said in a telephone interview. “Given the limited supply of class A industrial building space in Chattanooga, we’re getting a lot of interest.”
The warehouse and industrial structures are being built on the site of the former DuPont nylon plant, which was once Chattanooga’s largest manufacturing employer with more than 6,000 employees and contractors before it shut down in 2015. Some of the plant was sold to Invista and later Kordsa, which continues to operate in part of the former DuPont plant adjacent to the developing new industrial park.
A year ago when the first 189,000-square-foot building was completed, Home Depot signed a contract and began $2.4 million of work to prepare 60,800 square feet of warehouse space it is leasing for a new distribution facility.
