Some motorists on Ringgold and McBrien roads in East Ridge found a detour in place starting Monday so work crews can install waterlines in a project expected to take five days.
Eslinger Construction crews will close the 1500 block of McBrien Road at the intersection with Ringgold Road near the Food Lion grocery store and Discovery Outlet, according to a news release from Bridgett Raper, spokesperson for Hamilton County’s Small Cities Coalition.

“During this phase of construction, the intersection will remain closed up to Stone Street while crews install new water lines,” Raper said in the release. “During this closure, all traffic attempting to access the 1500 block of McBrien Road from Ringgold Road will be redirected to Tombras Avenue and Prigmore Road where alternate route and detour signs will be placed to redirect traffic.”
The McBrien-Ringgold intersection is the southern terminus for the nearly complete $9 million multi-modal project that extends along the sides of Ringgold Road to the Weldon Drive area. The waterline work does not appear to be in a location where it disturbs Ringgold Road’s now-complete 10-foot wide sidewalk.
During the water line work, officials said, all motorists attempting to access McBrien Road from Ringgold Road will see alternate routes and detour signs redirecting traffic. Eslinger will reopen the intersection once the lines are installed.
Anyone who experiences an emergency in the construction area should call 911 or contact the East Ridge Police Department at 423-622-1725, Raper said.
