A developer Monday pulled a proposal to build about 185 residences on Signal Mountain after opponents packed a meeting before a Hamilton County planning panel.

“We need to go back to the drawing board,” Jim Lea of Thousand Hills Co. said in an interview after more than 100 residents showed up against the project before the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Regional Planning Commission.

Barry Glasscock, who lives in the area where the homes were planned at Roberts Mill and Hixson Springs roads in unincorporated Hamilton County, said residents know development will come to the 103-acre tract.

But, he said in an interview, a proposal should have less housing and better fit the neighborhood.
