The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and the Finley Stadium Corporation announced an extension of their football and women’s soccer contracts, which will keep the programs competing at the 20,412-seat facility for another five years with an option for a sixth.

According to a release, the pact through at least 2029 is the longest between the school and the facility that opened in October 1997.

“Finley Stadium is one of the FCS’ best venues,” UTC athletic director Mark Wharton said. “I’ve been impressed over the years with how it has not rested on its laurels. The staff continually tries to improve the fan experience for our games just as our own does. The tailgating in the pavilion is festive with a simple walk to the seats on game days.

“We’re very proud our women’s soccer team is able to use a professional facility, too. It’s a great all-around stadium that is a perfect home for Chattanooga’s teams.”

Finley Stadium recently unveiled the enhanced Ultra Club, known formerly as the Stadium Club, which can now hold 150 seated individuals or 250 standing.

Brian Wright, the executive director at Finley Stadium, said at Tuesday’s Stadium Corp. meeting that food and beverage sales are up 28% over last year with offerings of elevated concessions at events. Wright added that rental income is up 10% for the same period and also discussed the impending upgrade to the elevators that service the luxury suites and press box.

“It currently takes 42 seconds to go from the ground floor to the third floor,” Wright said. “While we love making friends at Finley, it shouldn’t have to be on an extended elevator ride.”

UTC will begin the home portion of its women’s soccer season against Alabama on Aug. 25, with the home football opener against Mercer set for Sept. 14.
