One of the biggest convenience stores in Chattanooga opened Monday near the intersection of Jenkins and Shallowford roads to serve the growing East Brainerd area.

The new S&M Convenience store offers food, drinks, dog food and hardware and automotive items. So far the 4,500-square-foot retail outlet is yet to stock what its owners promise will be one of the biggest selections of draft and brand-name beers and cigar and vape selections.

Although the store boasts 13 refrigerated display windows and a giant walk-in beer cavern, owners Siddharth and Mukesh Patel have yet to secure their beer permit from the Chattanooga Beer Board. Raj Patel, one of the family owners of the new store, said S&M expects to gain approval at the next beer board meeting in April after resolving city zoning and building standards about where the store’s dumpster is located and how the landscaping was done on the new $1.5 million development.

“We hope to get our beer permit next week and to begin offering the widest selection of beer and other convenience items people want in this area,” Raj Patel said Monday as customers began flocking to the new store at 2302 Jenkins Road. “We want this to be a one-stop shop for everybody. You demand it, high chance we will have it.”
