DUNLAP, Tenn. – Despite his youthfulness, Sequatchie County High School sophomore football player Kason Hicks is very old school in his approach.

With the determination to run through any ball carrier or defender that stands in his way, the 6-foot, 210-pound Hicks harnesses a toughness that stands out in each game.

The 12-1 Indians have taken full advantage of Hicks’ physical edge as their run to this Friday’s Class 3A semifinals at home against Alcoa has been propelled in a big way by their leader in tackles and touchdowns.

“I like to be physical and beat you at the point of attack. Some of the players I like to style my play off of the most are Luke Kuechly and Clay Matthews,” said Hicks, who has 90 tackles (11 for loss) and 20 touchdowns. “I love playing hard-nosed football for this team. Sequatchie County is a great place to be and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. You get so much support here.”

Sequatchie County’s  coaching staff showed just how much trust they have in Hicks when they turned to their enforcer on fourth-and-two from their own 40-yard line while only up a score over Meigs County in last Friday’s 35-27 home quarterfinal win. Hicks gashed his way through the defense for an eight-yard run on a night where he had close to 160 total yards with two rushing touchdowns and a receiving score that came as the first half clock expired.
